Measuring your practice’s performance and effectiveness is becoming a critical component of effective and successful practices. The Riner Group will provide a thorough assessment of your practice’s finances and operational performance and provide suggestions for future improvement.

Elements of the assessment include:

  • Operational assessment
  • Physician and midlevel provider productivity
  • Measurement and benchmarking of key financial indicators
  • Individual interviews and surveys of physicians, nurses and staff
  • Quality outcomes measurement
  • Technology needs evaluation and proformas for such
  • Staffing assessment

Regardless of whether your group is independent, or fully employed, we will help develop an appropriate compensation structure for your team. We will work within the culture of your practice to develop a plan that aligns physician incentives with practice goals. The compensation model will be developed to support the group’s culture and strategic plan. Components of the compensation plan development include:

  • Assessment of the group’s culture and structure
  • Analysis of the practice’s financial performance
  • Individual interviews with practice physicians and management
  • Determination of appropriate compensation structures:
    • Clinical productivity
    • Non-clinical incentives (quality, non-patient care responsibilities, satisfaction scores, leadership/administrative time, outreach, etc.)
    • Alternative payment formats (value based)

As groups grow in size their governance structure must also evolve. Smaller groups are often governed by consensus with all partners having equal say in all matters. However, as groups grow in size it is often impractical for all members to participate in the management of the practice. As such, a new governance design will allow your practice to respond to the changing needs of the practice.

Elements of governance design include:

  • Board and Executive Committee structures
  • Management vs. Governance
  • Roles and responsibilities
  • Decision making process
  • Accountability
  • Physician compact
  • Coaching and mentoring

In today’s challenging environment physicians are turning to hospitals for financial and sometimes operational support, while hospitals are attempting to offer physicians tools and valuable practice motifs. The Riner Group can assist you in evaluating partnering opportunities and determining which structure will best meet the needs of your practice today, understanding your needs may change in the future. We do this with knowledge of clinical medicine as well as the business issues wrapped in these relationships.
